Calcium carbonate

What is Calcium Carbonate?

Calcium carbonate with the chemical formula CaCO3 is a mineral compound, mainly white to cream in color, and is significantly dispersed in nature (about 4%).
This material has various minerals and calcite, travertine and marble are among the most famous of them.
Calcium carbonate is one of the most widely used materials in industry and both mineral and synthetic types are used.
The pure type of calcium carbonate can be produced by passing CO2 gas through a hydrated lime slurry, which is whiter, purer and more shiny than the mineral type.

Description

Sedimentary calcium carbonate production method

Sedimentary calcium carbonate production is highly economical due to its added value compared to natural and mineral type.
In case of optimal production of this material, its price sometimes reaches up to 40 times its mineral type.
To produce precipitated calcium carbonate, the ore is first calcined in a furnace at a temperature of 1000 to 1100 degrees and transferred to the crushing unit.
After the rocks have cooled, they are transferred to a rotating hydrator and the quicklime is converted to hydrated lime in reaction with water.
The resulting slurry is hydrated lime which is suspended due to stirring and impurities and raw parts of the rock remain due to the weight of the bottom of the tank.
The exhaust gas of the furnace, which contains water vapor from the combustion of the burner and carbon dioxide,
is passed through the hydrated lime slurry and converted back into calcium carbonate.
In the next step, the precipitated calcium carbonate slurry is filtered using a press filter and the resulting cake is
dried slowly in a rotary dryer at a temperature of less than 70 degrees Celsius.
(Increasing the temperature will change the color of the product from white to gray) Finally, after drying, the product will be ground, packaged and ready for sale.
