Description

Swedish chemist George Brandt first discovered cobalt in 1735 And revived it as a metal from its ores.

Bermann showed in 1780 that the metal was actually a new element and called it cobalt.

Cobalt is not found as a metal in nature and its main minerals include erythrite (Co3 [AsO4].

8H2O), Scotrodite (with the chemical formula FeS2 containing cobalt and nickel deposits), saflorite (CoAs2), cobaltite (CoAsS) and lignite (Co2 + Co3 + 2S4) are found in small amounts in nature.

Cobalt metal production is usually done in the margins of other metal industries such as zinc, copper, iron and  industries, but also some directly from mines in other countries.

Niger, Congo, Zambia, Madagascar, Russia and Canada are mined and converted to metal or cobalt compounds after processing at the plant.

The main use of cobalt metal in the production of strong magnetic magnets, the production of steel superalloys used in aircraft engines,

Cement carbides, magnetic alloys, are the production of drilling heads and its compounds are also used in the production of pigments in glass, ceramics and industrial parts.

Other uses of cobalt as a catalyst in the petroleum industry include the metal, medical and agricultural industries.

In the livestock industry, small amounts of cobalt sulfate are used to stimulate the production of vitamin B12 to increase ruminant lactation.

can be produced by the reaction of sulfuric acid with cobalt oxide or metal.

After the cobalt sulfate solution is formed, the dry product can be obtained by crystallizing in polyethylene tubs or drying the solution using a spray dryer.

The sale of cobalt sulfate is limited due to its consumption and is not a widely used chemical in general.

Another method of producing cobalt sulfate is to recycle and refine this material from hot cake waste from zinc factories and other metal extraction industries.
